How to calculate nicotine strength for your DIY e-liquids

If you prefer to make your own DIY e-liquids at home, it is important to understand how to calculate how much nicotine you need to add to your liquid to produce the desired strength. Too much, and it will be harsh to vape and may ruin the flavour. Too little, and it might not satisfy your needs and may not provide the right throat hit.

There are a few factors to consider when calculating the nicotine strength of your e-liquid:

  • The strength of the nicotine you are using: Nicotine is usually available in different strengths, such as 100mg/ml, 50mg/ml, and 36mg/ml.
  • The volume of e-liquid you are making: This will determine how much nicotine you need to add to the e-liquid.
  • The desired nicotine strength of the e-liquid: This will depend on your personal preferences and needs. Some users may prefer a higher nicotine strength, while others may prefer a lower strength or no nicotine at all.

How to calculate nicotine strength for your e-liquid:

Let’s say you are making 30ml of e-liquid and you want a final nicotine strength of 3mg/ml. You are using nicotine that is 50mg/ml strength.

To calculate the amount of nicotine you need to add, you can use the following formula:

(Desired nicotine strength in mg/ml) x (Volume of e-liquid in ml) / (Nicotine strength in mg/ml) = Amount of nicotine in mg

If we use the values from the example above:

(3mg/ml) x (30ml) / (50mg/ml) = 0.9ml

This means you would need to add 0.9ml of the 50mg/ml nicotine to your e-liquid to achieve a final nicotine strength of 3mg/ml.

It is important to be accurate when measuring out the nicotine, as adding too much can make the e-liquid too strong and potentially harsh to vape.

It is generally recommended to use a calibrated dropper or syringe to measure out small amounts of nicotine accurately and to be sure you calculate nicotine strength correctly.
