Vape Mods That Use External Batteries

Shop a range of vape mods powered by external batteries, including 18650 & 21700 li-ion batteries.

Many vape mods and e-cigarettes use external batteries. From high-end vape mods for tricks, to smaller devices found in entry-level vape kits, external batteries are a common way to power a vape and can offer more flexibility than standard internal batteries.

Why Use Vape Mods with External Batteries?

External batteries for vape mods, like 18650 or 21700 lithium-ion batteries, are useful in many ways. They allow the user to carry multiple batteries with them, which can be swapped out when needed. This makes them ideal for travelling and on the go vaping.

External batteries can offer as much power as an internal battery, but you don’t have to wait for the device to recharge. Instead, you can simply swap out the batteries for new ones.

They can also be recharged inside the device, but it is better for the battery health if they are charged with an external battery charger.

Types of External Batteries: 18650 vs 21700

The main types of external batteries used in vape devices include 18650 and 21700 lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, among others. Some devices also use 18350 batteries, though these are much less common.

18650 batteries are the most type of common external battery used in vaping, but offer less power than 21700 batteries. If your device supports 21700 external batteries, it could be worth upgrading from 18650s if you find you’re eating through batteries.

Advantages of Using External Batteries for Vape Mods

The best thing about external batteries is their flexibility. You can charge multiple batteries and take them with you, swapping them out as and when needed.

Make sure you always carry external batteries in their protective cases and never loose in a pocket, purse or bag. Lithium-ion cells can short circuit and cause fires and damage to people or property if not kept in a protective case.

Disadvantages of Using External Batteries for Vape Mods

The main issue with external batteries is the hassle of transporting them. Internally powered devices just need a cable and plug to be recharged.

Externally powered vape devices require charged batteries, and once they run out you’ll need to recharge them, leaving your device powerless.

However, many vape mods allow you to recharge external batteries inside the device (with a charging cable). Though it is recommended that your charge external li-ion batteries with an external charger to protect battery health, this can be a lifesaver if you’re batteries run dry when on the go.

Are External Lithium-Ion Batteries Safe?

Lithium-ion batteries are very common and used in a range of electronic devices found in homes across the UK. They have protective sleeves and insulator rings and when used properly are safe to use in vape mods and e-cigarettes.

However, damaged or faulty li-ion batteries can be dangerous, and you should always check your batteries every time you take them out of or put them into your device.

Always transport your batteries in their protective casing and take care to check your li-ion batteries regularly. If you notice any tears in the protective sleeve, do not use the battery until you can replace the sleeve.

If there is any visible damage to the battery, including around the insulator rings, rips in the sleeve or to the positive or negative ends, do not use the battery.

If you suspect there is damage to the battery but you cannot see any visible signs, stay on the safe side and avoid using it.

Contact the battery manufacturer who will be able to instruct you on how to dispose of the battery safely or provide information on where to take it for recycling.

Never throw away li-ion batteries in a normal bin or into the environment.

Make sure you always carry external batteries in their protective cases and never loose in a pocket, purse or bag. Lithium-ion cells can short circuit and cause fires and damage to people or property if not kept in a protective case.

External Battery Chargers for Vapes & E-Cigs

It’s highly recommended you use an external battery charger to recharge your external vape batteries, both 18650 and 21700. This will help to increase the life of the battery and reduce battery wear, as well as being highly useful for charging multiple batteries at once.

You can get single, dual and quad external battery chargers at affordable prices with Eco-Vape.
